Full comparison and details

Notion's AI Meeting Notes capture a call the same way Minutes does: it transcribes your system audio and your microphone, with no bot joining the meeting. Everything after that is different. Notion's notes become pages in your workspace on the Business plan at $20 a member a month; Minutes writes a Markdown file to your disk for $24.99 once with Crest and never sends the audio anywhere.

Full disclosure: this page is published by the makers of Minutes. Notion AI's prices and limits below are taken from Notion AI's own pages, checked on 18 September 2026.

The short version

Pick Minutes if the recording should not leave your Mac, or you do not want a workspace subscription attached to your meeting notes.

Pick Notion AI if your work already lives in Notion: notes that turn into tasks with owners and due dates, projects that update after a call, and an agent that answers questions about past meetings.

Side by side

The comparison table is at the top of this page.

Where Minutes is better

  • Nothing is uploaded. Recording, transcription and the summary run on your Mac with the models that ship inside macOS. It goes online only for the licence check, the update check and an optional one-time model download, and there is no setting to get wrong.
  • The notes are files, not pages in a service. One .md per meeting, with the summary, the decisions, the catches and the transcript inside it, next to the audio. Point the folder at Obsidian or a git repo and it just works.
  • One payment, not per member per month. Notion Business is $20 a member a month, which is $240 a year for one person and $1,200 for five. Minutes comes with Crest for $24.99 once, and the licence never expires, or $2.99 a month.
  • Both sides, kept apart by channel. Your microphone and the audio your Mac plays are recorded as separate tracks, so attribution is a fact rather than voice matching. Headphones change nothing, because it taps the app digitally.
  • It never acts on its own. Every catch shows the sentence it came from and waits for you to press Add. That is deliberately less powerful than an agent that files things for you, and it is the right default when the agent is wrong.

Where Notion AI fits

  • The notes turn into work. Action items become to-dos with owners, priorities and due dates, projects get new statuses, and recaps are drafted for whoever missed the call. Minutes gives you a file and Add buttons.
  • It captures without a bot too. System audio plus microphone, no bot in the call, with Zoom, Google Meet or anything else on screen.
  • It is where the work already is. If your team lives in Notion, the notes land where everyone already reads.
  • It is not Mac only. Notion runs everywhere. Minutes needs macOS 26 or later on Apple Silicon.

The pricing math

Notion lists Free at $0, Plus at $10 and Business at $20 per member per month, with a toggle that says you save up to 20% by paying yearly. AI Meeting Notes is listed as a Business feature; Free and Plus get a trial of Notion AI. Minutes comes with Crest: $24.99 once buys Crest Pro, Take and Minutes.

The honest math: nobody buys Notion for the meeting notes. If you already pay for Business, AI Meeting Notes is already in your bill and Minutes has to win on where the audio goes and what you end up owning. If those two things do not matter to you, do not buy it.

If you already pay for Notion Business

Then start with what you have. Turn AI Meeting Notes on, run it for a fortnight, and see whether the notes end up somewhere useful. The only reason to add Minutes after that is a specific one: a meeting you do not want on anybody's servers, or a note you want to still be able to open in ten years without an account. If you hit either, the 7-day trial will tell you in one call. If you do not, you have saved yourself $24.99 and we would rather say so than sell you a second notetaker.

FAQ

Is Notion AI Meeting Notes free?

Free and Plus include a trial of Notion AI. AI Meeting Notes itself is listed under the Business plan at $20 per member per month; Plus is $10 and Free is $0, and the pricing page's toggle says you save up to 20% paying yearly. From notion.com/pricing, checked 18 September 2026.

Does Notion send a bot into my meeting?

No. Its product page says it transcribes your system's audio and your mic, with no setup and no bots. Minutes does the same thing, with the difference that Minutes does it on your Mac and Notion does it in its service.

So what is the actual difference?

Where the audio is processed, and what you are left holding. Notion gives you a page in a workspace that can turn into tasks and projects. Minutes gives you a Markdown file on your disk that nobody else ever saw.

Can I use both?

Yes, and it is a sensible answer. Record in Minutes, then paste the Markdown into Notion for the parts your team needs. The private half stays on your Mac.

Which Macs does Minutes run on?

macOS 26 or later on Apple Silicon, because the transcription and the summary use the models that ship inside that version of macOS.

Keep the meeting on your Mac

Both sides transcribed, the summary written on device, decisions and promises pulled out with an Add button. Markdown in a folder you own. Comes with Crest: $24.99 once for Crest Pro, Take and Minutes.
